“Women in Port Management”: 24 Maritime and Port Management Female Professionals in Le Havre for a Training Programme

From 27 January to 7 February 2020, EM Normandie’s Institut Portuaire d’Enseignement et de Recherche and HAROPA PORT are organising the 16th Edition of their Continuing Education Programme, ‘Women in Port Management’. 24 French-speaking professionals from 11 different countries have been invited for this new edition funded by International Maritime Organization (IMO) to support their upskill sessions.

A training programme in tune with the UNO Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Goal (N°5)

Started in 2008 to serve the UNO 3rd Millennium Development Goals, ‘Promoting Equality and Women’s Autonomy’, this training programme is welcoming a new session with executives from Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo, the Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Guinea, Madagascar, Senegal, the Seychelles and Togo.  

A 10-day Intensive Programme focusing on both Theory and Field Practice 

The evolution of the Transport Industry and Port Authorities, the Role of Maritime Affairs Authorities, Port Development and Environmental Protection, City-Port Links, Safety and Security Stakes, Cyber-Security in a Maritime Environment, are but a few of the topics addressed by the experts invited for this session. In addition, technical visits are organised to the Ports of Le Havre and Rouen and a Container Terminal, in order for these professionals to compare the knowledge newly acquired with field reality and to apply them within their own structures. 

350 women have attended this Seminar since 2009

Since the programme was launched, 350 women have already attended the programme. A large number of them were then able to access positions as Managers, Heads of a Division or Department Heads in port companies or authorities.
