The European Chair of Excellence on Circular Economy and Territories is a Jean Monnet Chair funded by the European Union. Its primary objective is to facilitate the implementation of the circular economy by equipping stakeholders at the territorial level—such as businesses, public authorities, and citizens—with essential tools, knowledge, and support.
The Essential Role of Territories
Cities and regions are crucial catalysts in implementing the circular economy. By proposing incentive-based public policies, financing local initiatives, and providing appropriate infrastructure, they create favorable conditions for advancing the circular economy. However, within the European Union, only a handful of cities (less than 40 out of more than 800 with a population of over 50,000) have adopted strategies conducive to the circular economy, underscoring the necessity for intensified efforts.

Engaging All Stakeholders in the Territory
Policymakers
Regional and local authorities play a crucial role in the implementation of the circular economy. We support them in defining and executing ambitious public policies across key sectors such as waste management, construction, food, mobility, and energy.
Businesses
Businesses are essential players in the transition. We assist them in incorporating the principles of the circular economy into their business models and operational practices.
Citizens
Citizens are the primary beneficiaries of the circular economy. We raise awareness of the importance of their consumption choices and encourage them to adopt more responsible behaviors.
